Summer Travel Packing List for Braces

Summer is the perfect time to get away for a relaxing vacation with friends or family. Before you head out and enjoy fun in the sun, make sure you have the essentials to take care of your braces throughout your trip. Besides the usual toothbrush and floss here are some items that our orthodontist in Chicago recommends packing.

Ortho Wax

Always keep your ortho wax handy in case you have a protruding wire that is bothering your gums or lips. Putting ortho wax over a sore can prevent further irritation from the broken piece. It won’t take up a lot of space in your suitcase and it will give you peace of mind that you have it in the case of an unexpected situation.

Rubber Bands

The tiny rubber bands, known as ligatures, that hold the wire to the bracket of your braces often come off without warning. If our orthodontist in Chicago instructed you to wear rubber bands, don’t forget to pack some replacements! They can be reattached with small tweezers or your fingers!

Toothpicks or Interdental Cleaners

Every meal can be tough when you have braces. Don’t forget to bring toothpicks or interdental cleaners that can easily remove food from between your teeth. Use these every time you eat to keep your gums healthy and clean.

Pain Reliever

Bring pain reliever like Ibuprofen or Aspirin for any braces-related soreness that may develop on your trip. If you recently got your braces tightened, you can also stick to a diet that consists of softer foods to help ease the pain.

The above items are a must-have for braces wearers heading on vacation. Enjoy your trip and visit our dentist in Chicago if you experience any complications along the way.
